Saratoga County to Spend $ 10 Million More in 2022

BALLSTON SPA – Saratoga County leaders have passed away a 2022 budget which will spend an additional $ 10 million and reduce property taxes slightly.

The $ 381 million budget remains in line with the plan proposed in October, according to the county supervisory board. The 2022 plan does not exceed the state property tax cap.

2022 sales tax revenue is projected at $ 141 million, slightly lower than forecast 2021 revenue. But the board said two factors were driving this year’s growth: having roughly the lowest county sales tax and lowest property tax rates in the state. , executives believe the trends will continue next year.

“This budget lays the groundwork for smart initiatives and investments that will ultimately help the residents of Saratoga County continue to enjoy a strong local economy in one of the safest, healthiest counties with one lowest tax rates in New York State, ”said Chairman of the Board Theodore Kusnierz. de Moreau said.

Next year’s budget provided money for “significant investments” in public safety, infrastructure, conservation, and health and social services, supervisors said.

Here’s how part of the $ 381 million will be allocated:

• The sheriff’s and district attorney’s offices will receive more than $ 4 million for training, body and car cameras, forensic discovery laws and mandatory jail programs.

• More than $ 3 million is earmarked to transform the county public health services department into a full-scale health department.

• Almost $ 5 million will be available in community support grants, including approximately $ 2 million for a new not-for-profit grant program.

• About $ 1.1 million was spent on economic development, tourism and heritage promotion.

• County will provide additional funding to invest in county workforce, residential broadband, first responder communications network upgrades, facilities, land maintenance, trail extension Zim Smith and the preservation of open spaces.

County officials also said a capital bond would cover about $ 11.4 million in suggested investments for longer-term projects. The bond is intended to spread the county’s expenses for investment projects over 10 years. The $ 11.4 million is part of Saratoga County’s $ 26 million capital budget for 2022 that leaders hope to spend on improving bridges, highways and facilities.
