Traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway came to a halt this morning after textile workers blocked it – in protest against the closure of two RMG factories in Gazipur.

Thousands of workers blocked the highway at Bhogra and Bashon points in Gazipur city around 10:30 am, our Gazipur correspondent reports.

Workers at Interlink Apparels Limited said authorities shut down the plant without notifying them. Today, the factory was supposed to clear their September payment, workers said.

Another RMG factory of the same group, located in Bhogra, was also closed without notice.

Although this correspondent was unable to reach management for their comment, the notice said authorities were closing factories because they faced huge losses from the pandemic and were unable to continue their operations. activities.

When contacted, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Zakir Hossain said they were negotiating with workers and authorities to resolve the issue.
