ISOG Organizes the Final Stage of the ISOG Metaverse Forum and Launches the ISOG I AM SECURE Cybersecurity Excellence Awards


The Information Security Officers Group (ISOG), the leading information security professional organization in the Philippines, successfully hosted the last of four installments of its METAVERSE I AM SECURE 2022 forum series on September 1. The online event brought together over 500 executives, local and international decision-makers, experts and cyber-leaders who shared the latest and most engaging solutions for gaining significant advantage in the metaverse.

Carry the general theme Crossing beyond the realm of cyberspacethe latest forum focused on the opportunities and risks of delivering public services in the metaverse, as well as preparedness strategies to strengthen the nation’s cybersecurity in this unpredictable environment of user engagement.

“As information security professionals, we need to be at the forefront of developments in the metaverse so that we can provide guidance and support to our public sector as it will eventually explore these uncharted waters,” said the ISOG chairman and head of the Land Bank of the Philippines. Secretary of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) Atty. Ivan John Uy empowered cybersecurity professionals with his keynote address on DICT’s efforts to boost e-governance in the Philippines and strengthen the country’s cybersecurity. Similarly, forum attendees also heard from guest speaker Jan Martin Encina, Associate Director and Head of Information Security Governance and Operations at Maya.

The list of speakers for the latest Metaverse Forum included Uujwal Kumar, Microsoft’s Emerging Tech Leader; Sanket Bhasin, senior product manager of Crowdstrike via ITSDI; Valerian Rossigneux, Sales Engineering Director of Crowdstrike who joined the panel; LTC Roland Javines Ong, INF (GSC) MNSA PA(R), Head Systems Engineering, Asean Operations of Trellix via VST-ECS; Kiat jiong Soh, Head of Sales Engineering for Rubrik’s Asia Region through Exclusive Channels; and Ian Farquhar, Global Field CTO and Director of Security Architecture for Gigamon via Westcon Comstor.

Another highlight of the online forum were two panel discussions that allowed industry experts to answer questions from forum attendees regarding ensuring public sector cybersecurity in the metaverse. The first round table, on the theme The Metaverse – A New Era of Governance, was attended by ISOG President Archie Tolentino and moderated by CEO and President of SQrity Consulting, Ric Singson Que. The second panel, which discussed Experiential Journey and Challenges in the Metaversewas attended by forum chair and ISOG vice-chair, Chito Jacinto, and moderated by Pineda Cybersecurity owner, Justine Pineda.

Nomination underway for the first ISOG Cybersecurity Excellence Awards

Another way for ISOG to strengthen cybersecurity in the country is to recognize outstanding Filipino cybersecurity experts who have made notable contributions to the national and global security scene. ISOG will hold its first Cybersecurity Excellence Awards on October 27 at Shangri-La au Fort.

Nomination for the awards is through September 8, 2022. ISOG encourages its members to nominate a deserving cyber leader in one of four categories from different industries: Best CISO/ISO, Best CRO/RMO, Best CTO/ISO/ IT Head and DPO of the year. Each confirmed and accepted application will receive a premium portable security box.
