The world of electric cars is currently one of the most competitive in the manufacturing space. Indeed, the concept of working electric cars is relatively new and everyone is rushing to prove that they have the best technology to top the charts.
For some time now, Tesla has dominated the electric segment with its builds. Since the launch of the Tesla Roadster, Tesla seem to get better and better over time. Advances in technology to include autonomous driving options and long-range batteries are just examples of what the company has offered in recent times.
A few years ago, Tesla announced that it was working on a new build, a truck that would provide the ultimate experience for all truck enthusiasts. When this truck was officially unveiled the Tesla Way, it was out of this world. It was the Tesla Cybertruck.
In addition to the Tesla Cybertruck’s sub-par design, it also boasted incredible performance. This announcement was closely followed by GMC’s announcement of an electric Hummer EV. It wasn’t your usual Hummer, however, but a Hummer EV truck. With numbers and figures from Tesla and GMC, many have rushed to pit these two trucks against each other.
This saw a rift with people having to choose sides between Tesla and GMC and others. Since the unveiling of the two trucks in their concept phase, they have become the top contenders in the premium electric truck category. But how do they line up? Here’s how the Hummer EV and the Tesla Cybertruck compare.
Design concept of two trucks
When it comes to the overall design of the two trucks, neither of them scream ordinary. And while the GMC Hummer EV isn’t exactly a new concept, the Tesla Cybertruck is. The Cybertruck’s design has been compared to that of a space rover, and some people have likened it to an origami figure as well.
But no matter what the Tesla Cybertruck looks like, it’s safe to say it’s not something you come across every day. Sharp angles throughout the truck give it crisp lines throughout, and the truck’s closed bed gives this vehicle an SUV-like design.
The GMC Hummer, on the other hand, features smooth curves flowing throughout the vehicle, giving this giant a subtle and tame look. GMC has managed to combine futuristic concepts with the old, rugged truck concept we all know and love.
Based on designs alone, it’s safe to assume that the Tesla Cybertruck is more of an over-functional type of truck, than the Hummer EV comes with both. But if you have to consider other aspects of the trucks, including horsepower, then both trucks are built for form and function.
Powertrain, performance and range
GMC hummers have always turned heads because of their size and construction for a long time. These vehicles have been nicknamed the Pit Bulls because of their muscular and beefy build. And being built primarily for the outdoors, Hummers pack a punch when it comes to power.
The Hummer EV 2022 is no different from its predecessor when it comes to power. Although, unlike its predecessor, this vehicle is 100% electric, it packs enough power to make you wiggle around in your regular truck. This vehicle is equipped with a 1,000 hp powertrain for Edition 1. It then drops a few units in the EV3X and EV2X, each containing 800 hp and 625 hp respectively. The power of this truck’s electric pack allows it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds.
On the flip side, Tesla has yet to announce the exact performance figures for the Tesla Cybertruck, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating. Since the unveiling of this truck, there have been rumors of its maximum power output capability.
To do this, people made estimates based on the performance of previous Tesla models. Many estimate that this truck’s powertrain will deliver between 690 hp and 800 hp. The only fact we are sure of is that the Cyber Truck will clock a time of 2.9 seconds on a 0-60 MPH sprint. This is based on what Tesla announced.
Both trucks promise to deliver when it comes to long-range battery performance, with the Hummer EV Edition 1 promising to go 350 miles, with the EV3X and EV2X dropping to 300 miles and 250 miles, respectively. The Tesla Cybertruck, meanwhile, starts at 250 miles for a single-engine model, and then starts at 300 miles if you upgrade to a dual-engine powertrain upgrade. The Tesla Cybertruck top trim promises to go 500 miles on a single charge.
