50-year-old pedestrian killed in suspected hit and run on Highway 4

A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed Wednesday in a suspected hit-and-run on Highway 4 near Tirat Carmel in northern Israel.

The man was found by first responders in critical condition and pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances of the incident were not immediately clear.

The highway was blocked in both directions as police collected evidence at the scene.

The offending vehicle was found with a broken windshield near the crash site, and the driver could not be located immediately, police said.

On Monday, a woman in her 30s was killed and a young girl seriously injured in a collision between two cars and a truck on Route 60 in the West Bank.

According to data released by road safety lobby group Or Yarok, a total of 286 people have been killed in car accidents on the country’s roads since the start of the year.
